Go Behind the Scenes of the Indy 500 with MPI

Hello readers,

Ever wondered what it takes to produce an event like the Indy 500? Now you can get the inside scoop with a special experiential event from Meeting Professionals International, slated for May 26-29 in Indianapolis. This special MPI series, which launched two years ago, also has upcoming events aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, at C2 Montreal and the 74th Annual Venice Film Festival in Italy, but the racing event is the most easily accessible for Illinois planners.

Event Snapshots: In Good Health

In the age of health care mergers, many hospitals are tasked with the responsibility to reintroduce themselves to a crowded market. Delnor Hospital in Geneva decided to do so with a memorable social event, inviting current, past, and prospective supporters to the hospital, which recently joined forces with Northwestern Medicine. Owner/Planner of Perfectly Planned Events Mindy Loughead designed a retro airline travel theme to accomplish the mission. “Come Fly Away with Us” allowed guests to see the property in a unique, behind-the-scenes experience.

Now Open! Conrad Chicago Takes Over the Mag Mile

Hello readers,

Last week, Chicago Alderman Brendan Reilly, Hotelier Laurence Geller and Hilton executives gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to proudly announce the opening of the Conrad Chicago on the Magnificent Mile. Though the luxury hotel originally operated under the same name with a former location on Rush Street, the venue has been completely refreshed with new design elements and a new location in the former Draft FCB building.

Event Snapshots: HeliNights Provides a Whole New Perspective on Chicago

While you can always view the city of Chicago from one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Willis Tower, there’s a new way to see the vast landscape—from a helicopter hovering 100 stories high. Chicago Helicopter Experience is the latest option for meeting and event professionals to take their event to a whole new level. Guests can enjoy dinner, cocktails and entertainment before taking flight on a unique day or night tour that also provides a little history.

Event Snapshots: A French Twist

At this year’s Alliance Française De Chicago gala, guests had a roaring good time taking in the whimsy of 1920s Paris. The biennial event benefits the nonprofit institution, founded 120 years ago, which has become the Midwest’s leading French cultural and learning center. It’s dedicated to studying the language and exchange of friendship between the two countries, and has one of the largest private French libraries in the area.

Event Snapshots: The Last Speakeasy

What better reason to toast a cocktail than the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition? With that “spirit” in mind, the Chicago History Museum organized The Last Speakeasy event in December, a party to celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the passage of the 21st Amendment that reversed the ban on alcohol. Before it, 1930s speakeasies and coordinating mob activity were ubiquitous to Chicago, which was the retro feel the museum had in mind for the event.
