Event Snapshots: A 007 Masquerade

Guests came together for two important reasons at Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center last October: to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the 007 James Bond franchise and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first annual “En Noir: A Casino Royale Masquerade” event was designed to benefit Imerman Angels, a one-onone cancer support community that pairs a cancer fighter, survivor or caregiver with someone who has fought and survived the same type of cancer.

Magical Things Happen in the Oak Brook/Lombard Corridor

Built in 1962, the historic Drake Hotel in Oak Brook served as a game changer for the western suburbs of Chicago. It was the suburban counterpart to the iconic and lavish Drake Hotel on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and proved that the suburbs could be ultra-cool too. ¶ That is, until the doors closed in 2009.

Known in later years as the Wyndham Drake, the hotel sat empty for years as the sounds of every party, every meeting and every celebration once held inside its doors echoed within the now shuttered halls.

The benefits of promoting general managers from abroad

“All my life, my dream was to come to the States,” recalls Pierre-Louis Giacotto. “It was a country that we dreamed of every day.” Though the 51-year-old grew up in Lyon, France, like many of his peers, he had visions of heading west, which was further stirred by an early interest in hospitality and hearing about an explosion of possibilities in America.
