Ace Hotel is expanding its portfolio of popular boutique properties, announcing the opening of Ace Hotel Chicago on Sept. 1. It will be the brand’s ninth hotel, joining sister properties in New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans. The Ace Hotel has long had a goal to support artists and musicians in its local communities through various partnerships and programming. The Chicago property has already made waves in its new home, teaming up with youth organizations like Little Black Pearl, Young Chicago Authors and 826CHI. Ace Hotel Chicago has donated 10 percent of revenue from its preview bookings to these local charities and has plans to continue to implement various events and initiatives throughout the year.

Located in the West Loop, the 159-room hotel has plenty of features for business and leisure guests to enjoy, such as a ground-floor restaurant, rooftop bar and lounge with roasts from Portland-based Stumptown Coffee. There are also plenty of meeting and event spaces to choose from, including two ground floor spaces, two meeting rooms on the 6th floor and two terraces on the 7th floor.

Members of The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association (IHLA) placed their bets for a good cause this summer at the 11th annual Pony Up for the Kids fundraiser event, held at Arlington International Racecourse. Proceeds went directly into a fund for the IHLA Educational Foundation Scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to local students pursuing degrees in hospitality. (See the latest winners on page 45.) To date, the program has awarded $400,000 to deserving students. Guests were able to enjoy the racecourse’s private Beverly D.

The work of Bob Doepel and his staff at Chicago Scenic Studios speaks for itself, having produced some of the most iconic sets for museums, TV and film and corporate events.

Meeting planners have more options than ever outside the city.
