Chicago Soccer Team Walks the Runway for Charity

Goal! The Fifth Annual Soccer & Style Fashion Show was a complete success when it was held on May 3, raising $20,000 to benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation, the soccer club’s charitable organization that’s committed to enhancing the lives of disadvantaged youth throughout the Chicagoland area. The event was held at ROOF on theWit and emceed by ABC 7’s meteorologist Cheryl Scott; it featured several players from the Chicago Fire (including new all-star signee Bastian Schweinsteiger) modeling the latest fashions from Banana Republic as fans and bloggers looked on.

Chicago Magic Lounge is About to Draw the Curtain

Chicago Magic Lounge will soon unveil their bag of tricks with a grand opening in January 2018. As a true testament to Chicago’s rich magic history, the luxurious new entertainment center in Andersonville will dazzle guests with secret entrances, an art deco-style magic lounge featuring a vintage 1920s speakeasy performance bar, a 120-seat cabaret theater with an overlooking mezzanine level and an exclusive close-up performance space that seats 40.

Aloha Poke Expands Across the Country

Chicago's Aloha Poke Co. has announced new locations in Wisconsin (Milwaukee), Minnesota (Minneapolis), Southern California (Marina Del Rey, Costa Mesa, San Diego and Los Angeles), three locations in Miami and one in Washington D.C. Since its opening in March 2016 in the Chicago French Market, has expanded around Illinois, and plans to open in Denver were made earlier this year.

The seasonal structure, placed square on the sand near North Avenue Beach and with floor-to-ceiling windows offering unobstructed views of Lake Michigan, evokes a coastal vacation feeling many would travel to exotic locations to find—but is right in our own backyard.

Signature Drink: Paper Airplane

Nestle into fall with this frothy whiskey drink from Marshall’s Landing. The “Paper Airplane” is just one of many craft cocktails offered by the new lounge and restaurant located in the Merchandise Mart. Customers will also find chef-inspired seasonal menus, artisanal coffee and a fullservice bar in a casual, vibrant atmosphere. The spot, named for the famous Marshall Field and operated by the DMK Restaurant group, also has catering options, private meeting selections and customized event spaces available.

Portillo’s Brings Back Lemon Cake, Rosemont Baseball Team Gets A Name

After a plea by a Reddit user that went viral, the popular Chicago-based restaurant group brought back its cult classic lemon cake after a 10-year absence for a limited run this summer. They have since extended the availability window through August (and maybe permanently, if we can dream).

Portillo's Announces Maple Grove Location

Portillo's Chicago-style restaurant, which recently opened its first Minnesota location in Woodbury, has announced details on its newest location on Elm Creek Blvd., in Maple Grove. Portillo's currently has 50 locations in seven states.

2017 To Be the Year of Public Art in Chicago

Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events have named 2017 as the "Year of Public Art", and some of Chicago's hottest hotels will be housing living, breathing art installations. Chicago's reputation as a host of cultural and artistic inclusivity has inspired hotels to showcase art in their spaces for the rest of the year. Some of the hotels that will be hosting art pieces are the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel; The Blackstone, Autograph Collection; and Thompson Chicago.
