The American Club and Kohler Waters Spa at Destination Kohler have been awarded five stars for the eighth time by Forbes Travel Guide—the highest award given by the global authority in luxury leisure and travel. Located at a premier property in Kohler, Wisconsin, the historic hotel and rejuvenating spa is a model for exemplary hospitality service. Four- and Five-Star awards are earned through anonymous professional inspectors from Forbes Travel Guide who evaluate up to 900 objective criteria.

“We are steadfast in our commitment to excellence and gracious hospitality. Our associates are passionate about creating memories and special moments for our travelers," says Christine Loose, vice president–Lodging and Wellness for Kohler Co. Hospitality & Real Estate. “We are so pleased to receive this honor from Forbes.”

Having celebrated its centennial last year, The American Club is a historical landmark. The hotel was once a dormitory for Kohler Co. immigrant workers and was transformed into a preeminent travel destination in 1981 by its Executive Chairman Herb Kohler. The elevated accommodations are outfitted with comfortable furnishings, Kohler Co. plumbing products and an old-world charm. An industry leader in hydrotherapy, Kohler Waters Spa offers year-round retreat, featuring an expansive menu of facial and body treatments. The spa’s renovations, completed last June, feature new treatment rooms, additional lounge seating in the poolside area, a bridal suite and a health-conscious café.

The resort is also home to The Immigrant Restaurant, a Forbes Four-Star dining venue. The restaurant boasts an intimate atmosphere and a menu that combines modern American cuisine with the influences of the French, Dutch, German, Normandy, Danish and English nationalities who populated the Village of Kohler in the past.

The resort also features first-rate golf and burgeoning wellness programming. Travelers love the resort’s golf courses, Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run. In 2020, Whistling Straits is set to host the prestigious Ryder Cup tournament.

Kohler Waters Spa features Yoga on the Lake, a premier yoga studio featuring 75 classes per week, Bold Cycle, a cycling studio, and Sports Core Health & Racquet Club, a private fitness club.

After almost 20 years of vacancy, the Cook County Hospital in Chicago will be put to use once again. A $150 million adaptive reuse project restored the historic, 106-year-old hospital, which has become a combined Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotel, as well as medical offices, a museum, a food hall and more. While the opening is multi-phased, the hotels are scheduled to open in late July.

Jumpstarting tourism in cities across the country will be more complicated than simply opening doors again – especially in cities with large populations like Chicago. However, working together proves more effective, and in Chicago, more than 250 businesses are banding together to join Choose Chicago’s new initiative, Tourism & Hospitality Forward. It bolsters a safe reopening that encourages tourism as well as meetings and events in

Due to COVID-19, non-essential travel was, or has been, banned for months. Long anticipated trips and in-person gatherings were canceled and people have adjusted to the new normal: staying at home and meeting over Zoom. However, states have been slowly lifting restrictions, and non-essential travel will soon be happening across the country again. However, some may not be as comfortable with the thought of traveling as they were before the pandemic.
