$100 Million Edgewood Tahoe Lodge Completed

The new $100 million Edgewood Tahoe Lodge has opened on the south shore of Lake Tahoe after more than two decades of difficulties of strict regulations regarding the environment and four years of reviewing plans and obtaining permits for construction to begin in 2012. The Edgewood Tahoe Lodge's completion was dependent on limiting storm water runoff that is harmful to Lake Tahoe, as well as protecting wetlands, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

DuPage County to Grow, Prosper and Share in New Tourism Plan

In conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week, the DuPage County Convention and Visitors Bureau will be rolling out a new strategic plan to grow the tourism market in the 38 western suburban communities it represents. Most recently the bureau added the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation to its roster and is in talks to add the Forest Preserve District.

Rockford Prepares for Multiple Sports Tournaments

Four large-scale sports tournaments are set to be hosted in the Rockford, Ill., region next year. It’s estimated that the participants, coaches and fans flocking to the area will contribute $5 million to the local economy during their stay.

The tournaments that have been booked so far include: the 2017 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, Feb. 23–25; Amateur Athletic Union Midwest Regional Gymnastics Championships, May 5–7; Premier SuperCopa Championship, Jun. 9–12; and the Elite Clubs National Playoffs, Jun. 22–27.

Keeping Atlantic City Safe

On Thursday, June 25, James Howard performed his routine morning cleaning duties on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, when he witnessed a purse snatching.

In that moment, Howard, a General Maintenance employee, shouted at the suspect and then went to help the woman. At that time, he also radioed his crew and supervisor. With his help, two members of the crew—Eddie Cruz and Javier Figueroa—and Wilfredo Cintron, supervisor, helped in the search and arrest of the suspect, as well as recovery of the victim’s purse.
