Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa Begins Renovation

Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is starting their multi-year renovation of the entire property. It will include a complete refurbishment and modernization of its 80 guest rooms. While the rooms are renovated, their offering special rates through April 2017.

“If you haven’t stayed in one of the homes in The Galena Territory, they’re a great base for all the activities we have going on this winter,” says Thomas Ruhs, general manager. “Cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice skating on the pond are just a few of the things you can do including golf since the weather has been warmer."

Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis’ Compost Program Excels

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis has finished the first year of a program meant to reduce hotel CO2 emissions, and it has been successful.

The project primarily focuses on composting, its fully operational in the hotel. In the first 11 months, hotel teams composted 415,000 pounds of unused food waste. The composted scraps are picked up by St. Louis Composting and sent to a facility in Belleville, Ill. The compost is sold to homeowners and landscapers in the St. Louis area.

Cheers! McCormick Place Now Has Its Own Branded Beer

Hello readers, The craft beer movement is moving into McCormick Place. North America’s largest convention center is now also the first in the country to have its own branded beer using hops grown on the building’s rooftop. McCormick Place Everyday Ale made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show the weekend of Feb. 11 and 12. It’s described as a “refreshing Session Ale with a light malt backbone and hopped with Citra, Amarillo and Cascade hops.” The brew is an example of SAVOR…Chicago’s commitment to providing culinary excellence to the convention center since taking over operations in 2011.

Meet Alpana Singh, The Early Bird

Alpana Singh knew she wanted to be in the restaurant business since she was a little girl. Growing up in Monterey, California, her father was a professional chef, and her mother, a server. “Truth be told, I don’t know how to do anything else. It’s in my blood,” she says. At the age of 15, she was working in her first restaurant; by 23, she had remarkably landed a sommelier position at Chicago’s four-star gem Everest; and by 26, she became the youngest female to ever pass the Master Sommelier Exam.

In fact, a new report shows that roughly 21 million people made a trip to National Parks in the Midwest Region in 2015, spending $1.3 billion in communities within a 60-mile radius of the chosen destination, supporting jobs and local economies. In Illinois alone, that figure tallied around 233,000 recreation visits and a total visitor spending of almost $14 million.
