The Meeting Professionals International (MPI) recently announced the winners of the 2014 Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence (RISE) Awards. The RISE Awards include annual awards in three categories: individual achievement, community achievement and organizational achievement. The recipients will be honored at the annual RISE Awards presentation and luncheon on August 3, 2014 during MPI’s World Education Congress in Minneapolis.

The Edgewater, which is reopening in August of this year after a $100-million renovation and expansion, recently announced the appointments of David Buss as director of rooms, Meredith Voller as director of sales and marketing and Sara Klemme as director of special events.

Total Event Resources, a Woman’s Business Enterprise certified meeting and events company, was recognized with the 2014 Best Corporate Event NICE award for its work on the PepsiCo National Fleet/Other Goods & Services Summit & Tradeshow. Total Event Resources developed a custom mobile app for PepsiCo, which helped promote quality networking, gathered metrics for the company and promoted green initiatives for the tradeshow.
Plante Moran unveiled the new state-of-the-art executive boardroom for not-for-profit organizations, community groups and associations in need of a venue for meetings or events. The boardroom, located in downtown Chicago, seats 18 people and features a large television monitor, Internet access and video connection.

Chicago, the Tony Award-winning musical, premiered in Chicago at the Bank of America Theater on Feb. 25, while Peter and the Starcatcher, a grown-up’s prequel to Peter Pan, is scheduled to show on April 2. Every year Zagat, a restaurant and hotel guide and rating consortium, releases their Chicago Hotel survey ratings based on the opinions of thousands of avid travelers. This year, Hyatt Regency Chicago received outstanding ratings for quality, facilities and service.
The hotel received a score of 24 out of 30 across the board and travelers that took the survey noted the wonderful views from the rooms, comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and a proffesional and helpful staff.
These achievements highlight Chicago’s continuing efforts to become the greenest city in the world and achieve 50 million annual visitors by 2020.
