IMEX America 2016 Breaks New Records

According to recently published figures, IMEX America 2016 has officially broken multiple records. The event, which was held Oct. 18–20, had an attendance increase of 14 percent from last year.

There was a 6 percent increase in the attendance of hosted buyers, making up 3,216 from 60 countries. About 10,000 buyers attended group appointments and prescheduled appointments were upwards of 60,000—far more than the numbers gathered in 2015.

Omni Hotels & Resorts Announces Updates

Omni Hotels & Resorts is announcing new developments for the hotel. The 16-story hotel is set to open in June 2017, showcasing 300 guest rooms and suites, and 24,000 square-feet of meeting space, including a 13,000-square-foot ballroom. Additionally, Omni Hotels & Resorts has appointed Gayla Guyse as director of sales and marketing for the Omni Frisco Hotel. Guyse has 20 years of experience working for the Omni Frisco Hotel.

Kimpton’s World Series Wager Means Everyone Wins

Hello readers,

This week we may witness history as the Chicago Cubs travel to Cleveland and continue their bid in the World Series where they could end up winning the championship for the first time in more than 100 years. The stakes are high, with everyone making wagers on the final team standing—including Kimpton Hotels. Last week Kimpton’s combined Chicago properties (the Allegro, Monaco, Palomar, Burnham and the Gray) sent a goat and the following message to their partner, The Schofield Hotel in Ohio.

John Groh Awarded 2016 Certified Destination Management Executive Designation

On Aug. 3 2016, the Certified Destination Management Executive designation was awarded to John Groh, the president of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau in Illinois. Groh received his CDME recognition at the Destination Marketing Association International 2016 Annual Convention in Minneapolis. As well, Groh was elected to the Destination & Travel Foundation Board of Directors Executive Committee for one year. This committee pushes industry leaders and experts, in their respective fields, to find new strategies in the wake of a growing business environment.

IMEX America Promotes Technology Innovation

This year at IMEX America, attendees will have the opportunity to discover the latest trends and innovations that will greatly influence the meeting and events industry.

According to an IMEX Group survey of almost 1,200 respondents, nearly 40 percent of meeting professionals believe these trends and innovations will come from technology.

Wyndham Welcomes New VP

Today, Wyndham Group, based in Parsippany, N.J., welcome a new member to their team.

The organization hired Kathy Maher as senior vice president, global sales and revenue—an expanded role now in charge of the company’s global sales efforts.
 
Maher, who most recently served as senior vice president of revenue management, will be responsible for designing innovative sales strategies and leading a dynamic global team of more than 125 salespeople.
