AmpliVox Honored For Disaster Communication System

On Nov. 16, AmpliVox was awarded the ASTOR Award for the Best Disaster Preparedness/Disaster Recovery System, presented at the 2016 ISC East Show in New York.

The AmpliVox Radio Hailer is a transportable system that allows for communication even when other sources have been eliminated. The Hailer joins with two MURS radios, one for receiving the other for transmitting. Additionally, it includes an amplifier, a horn speaker that has 108 dB of sound, and a warning siren with 120 dB.

Event Snapshots: A French Twist

At this year’s Alliance Française De Chicago gala, guests had a roaring good time taking in the whimsy of 1920s Paris. The biennial event benefits the nonprofit institution, founded 120 years ago, which has become the Midwest’s leading French cultural and learning center. Karen McGuigan Celebrates 30 Years in Chicago Hotel Industry

Chicago native, Karen McGuigan, general manager at Hyatt Centric The Look Chicago, has just reached a milestone in her career—30 years in the Chicago hotel industry.

McGuigan began her career in January 1987, working at the front desk at Hyatt Regency O'Hare. For 15 years, she worked at various Hyatt locations in the Chicago area in a number of different capacities, including director of security at Hyatt Regency Chicago. In 2014, she joined the pre-opening team for Hyatt Centric, which opened last April.

IMEX America 2016 Breaks New Records

According to recently published figures, IMEX America 2016 has officially broken multiple records. The event, which was held Oct. 18–20, had an attendance increase of 14 percent from last year.

There was a 6 percent increase in the attendance of hosted buyers, making up 3,216 from 60 countries. About 10,000 buyers attended group appointments and prescheduled appointments were upwards of 60,000—far more than the numbers gathered in 2015.

New Hampton Inn & Suites Opens in Schaumburg

Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Chicago Schaumburg is the most recent hotel to join the Hampton by Hilton brand. Located at 891 Plaza Drive, the hotel is owned and managed by Superhost Enterprise LLC.

The 107-room hotel is in the center of Schaumburg’s business district and in walking distance of Woodfield Mall and the Schaumburg Convention Center. They offer a range of amenities such as free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour business center with complimentary printing, a 594-square-foot meeting space that holds 24 people and a business center.

Meet Nate Johnson, The Ice Man

Ice sculptures are coming back to events, says artist Nate Johnson. The co-owner of Johnson Studios, which opened in 2010, sold his first sculpture back in 1989. In his busy season (from Mother’s Day to New Year’s Eve), he can carve up to 150 blocks a week. “For a while it was a cliché thing with many companies giving clients menus to order. But we’re trying to get away from that,” he says. “We encourage every client to give us an idea of who they are and what interests they have so we can design a special piece for every event.”

Oswego and Plainfield Provides Plenty of Reasons to Pack up and Leave the City

Last summer was a big year for Arranmore Farm and Polo Club. Since 1999, the 300-acre plot of land in Oswego was a private playing fi eld for the sport of polo. But in 2015, the Greene family opened up the land to the public for the fi rst time, o ering an on-the-lawn concert series (similar to Ravinia) and full buyouts for weddings and other special events held from May to October.
