Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis’ Compost Program Excels

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis has finished the first year of a program meant to reduce hotel CO2 emissions, and it has been successful.

The project primarily focuses on composting, its fully operational in the hotel. In the first 11 months, hotel teams composted 415,000 pounds of unused food waste. The composted scraps are picked up by St. Louis Composting and sent to a facility in Belleville, Ill. The compost is sold to homeowners and landscapers in the St. Louis area.

Hilton Announced Newest Initiative at IMEX

IMEX America, an expo for the travel, meetings and events industry, took place in Las Vegas on Oct. 10–12. There, Hilton announced and launched their new initiative, WowMakers, which will help recognize the hardworking professionals in the hospitality industry.

The program is intended to celebrate the 100,000-plus professionals in the industry by sharing their stories and helping them connect with others in the business—giving them the recognition they deserve.

Meet AC Launches New Websites

Meet AC, Atlantic City, N.J.’s tourism development agency, is shaking things up with three new websites this year and three in the pipeline set to launch within the next six months.

Recently, the organization established the convention website, which holds its convention calendar, a number of meeting planner tools and marketing materials. The convention center website merged with Meet AC. Soon, exhibitors will be able to make purchases directly through the website.

MPI Addresses CMM Program Changes

There’s been a lot of talk about MPI’s changes to the Certificate in Meeting Management program proposed late last year. Namely, designees were upset about the "dilution of the title" since MPI decided to make it a collaborative recognition for both meeting and travel professionals, altering the instructional content and reducing the time commitment to 3.5 days of onsite education (from 7) and the experiential requirement to 5 years (from 10).
